Three ways to save on printer ink
It is a well established fact that in long run, ink cost is far more than the original cost of the printer. For a typical cartridge, ink effectively costs well over 11000$ per gallon. Sometimes the cost of a new ink cartridge is more than the cost of the printer, often making it sense to buy the printer instead of the cartridge. Usually using the original printer cartridge is hassle-free and gives best results. However for day-to-day printing jobs it is worth considering other options that could save a lot in long run. Ink Refill Several stores offer refilling empty cartridges at fraction of the original cartridge price. Some of these stores include Office Depot, Office Max, Wallgreens and Cartridge World. Refilling provides a great alternative to high priced new cartridges. Wallgreens charges flat fee of 10$ for refilling black cartridges and 15$ for color. For most cartridges, refilling can be done at 50% to 70% of original cartridge cost. Refill at Home Refilling cartridges at home is the cheapest way of keeping the printer running - if it can be done successfully … You can also refill your cartridge yourself using a refill kit. Refill kits usually contain ink bottles, instructions and syringes to required for refilling. Some kits are universal and can be used for most inkjet printers while others are for specific printers. Refilling cartridges at home is the cheapest of keeping the printer running - if it can be done successfully. In most cases however it is difficult to avoid leaking cartridges, spilled ink and related mess. The process can also be time consuming. Advanced versions of refill kits are automatic and fairly simple and clean to use and avoid leaks, spills and mess. For example the Automatic Ink Refill System from Dataproducts - made for specific printer brands. Third Party Cartridges These include store brands such as Office Depot and Staples as well as less known third-party brands that are compatible with specific printer brands. Store brand cartridges sell at 70 to 80% of the cost of the original brand cartridge. Less known third-party cartridges can cause significant savings and may be available at only 20% of the original cartridge cost, however are not sold by most office product stores and are available only on-line
